With each situation and experience you deal with every day, you can choose to be positive or you can choose to be negative. For instance, two people can experience the same hardship, yet one may bounce back with resilience while the other may give up and feel stressed and anxiety.
Those who are resilient tend to approach life’s challenge with a healthy mindset and a positive attitude.
Here are some tips for creating and keeping a healthy mindset:
Positive thinking begins when you affirm the positives in your life. For example, each morning you could say, I make positive choices to nourish my body, mind and soul”. You can use positive affirmations in moments of weakness when you are tempted to fill up with junk food, respond negatively to something, or trade sleep for something less important.
Surround yourself with positive people. The moods of those around you can impact how you feel and can be contagious and spread quickly. By making an effort to spend time with people who have a positive outlook, you will find that you’ll start thinking more positive too.
Make time for the things that make you happy. Whether it’s spending time with friends, going to the movies, listening to music you love, or just playing with your kids, make the activities you love to do a priority.
Bring more humor into your life. A sense of humor can help you get through tough situations and it’s a great way to relieve stress. Spend time with funny people, share jokes or funny stories or watch funny movies.
Make gratefulness a habit and a way of life. When feeling negative, you can lose sight of the things you’re thankful for. Spend a few minutes each day reflecting on the good things in your life, or sharing them with a friend or family member.
A positive attitude is something you can adopt with practice. Start with thinking positive about your desire to have a healthier mindset!
